“Beijing, China (April 13, 2010)—This spring, Woodward Beijing will celebrate its grand opening by welcoming some of the world’s top action sports athletes for a celebration in China on May 15. Located in the beautiful rural Daxing district, Woodward Beijing is built on a four-star resort property that has been converted into 410 acres of indoor and outdoor ramps and bowls, with a gigantic outdoor skate plaza as the centerpiece.

The VIP invited-guest grand opening will include a vert demo, best trick contest and a traditional ribbon-cutting ceremony. The following day, May 16, the camp will be open to the general public. Many of the world’s best action sports athletes are traveling to China for the event, including: Tony Hawk, Ryan Sheckler, Sandro Dias, Neal Hendrix, Pierre- Luc Gagnon, Dan Murphy, Zered Bassett, Joey Brezinski, Ryan Decenzo, Juergen Horwarth, Curren Caples, Brandon Biebel, Renton Millar, David Loy, Jaws, Andrew Cannon, Jimmy Carlin, Tom Asta, Chase Hawk, Chase Dehart, Dakota Roche and Olympic gymnast and “Dancing with the Stars” contestant Shawn Johnson.

“The Woodward Experience will provide a great opportunity to introduce Chinese youth, and international students living in China, to new activities that stimulate creative thinking,” says Zhou Qiang. “In addition, we also anticipate that the customer base will grow to include many action sports enthusiasts from all over the Pacific basin, including Japan, Korea, Southeast Asia, Australia and New Zealand.”

Woodward Beijing is the first international property in the U.S.-based Camp Woodward roster. For over forty years, the original Woodward Pennsylvania location has been one of the premiere training facilities for both young amateurs and professional action sports and gymnastics athletes, including many Olympians. In recent years the company has built additional camps in California and Colorado, and expanded to include surfing, snowboarding and skiing and audio/visual and music education programs in Beijing, California and Pennsylvania. Woodward Beijing will also offer English and Chinese language classes.

“Woodward Beijing provides an opportunity to inspire many young Chinese to discover the passion of lifestyle sports by bringing world-class athletes and facilities directly to them,” says Gary Ream, Managing Owner and President of Camp Woodward. “We are excited to be a part of helping grow action sports in China and also give children the opportunity to exercise their creativity through art forms such as music, videography, graphic arts and photography.

Street League Skateboarding comes to Glendale this summer

Street League Skateboarding announced this week that for the first time, street skateboarding competition has been organized into its own professional league, with the best skateboarders in the world competing head to head in a series of individual tour stops this summer.

The inaugural year of Street League features a three-stop arena tour beginning at Jobing.com Arena in Glendale Aug. 28, followed by the Citizens Business Bank Arena in Ontario, Calif., Sept 11; and the final stop in Las Vegas at the Thomas & Mack Center Sept. 25. The skaters will compete at each event for the largest prize pool in skateboarding history.

Founded by 20-year professional skateboarder and entrepreneur, Rob Dyrdek, Street League is the future of competitive street skateboarding.

Signed to multi-year contracts, 24 of the world’s biggest skateboarding stars will compete in Street League exclusively. The pros include Chris Cole, Ryan Sheckler, Greg Lutzka, Torey Pudwill, PJ Ladd, Sean Malto, Mike Mo Capaldi, Mikey Taylor, Billy Marks, Tommy Sandoval and Paul Rodriguez. The Street League pros will battle it out for more than $1 million in prize money.

“It has been a dream of mine to create a professional tour that bridges the gap between true street skateboarding and contest skating, which to date has been fragmented and misguided," said Dyrdek. "Street League is more than just a new contest series; it will redefine the way skateboarding competitions are done.”

To maximize the talents of these street skateboarding stars, Street League has designed authentic concrete skate plazas to be built on the floors of world-class sports arenas. In addition, Street League brings with it the exclusive use of the instant scoring technology, ISX (Instant Scoring Experience), to the world of skateboarding. Using real-time scoring and proprietary format, Street League will tell a compelling story about each skateboarder’s performance and will have fans on the edge of their seats from the first trick to the last.

Family comedy THE TOOTH FAIRY will get the Hi-Def treatment

As "The Rock," Dwayne Johnson last wrestled professionally in a Handicap preliminary match for WrestleMania XX on March 14, 2004. Johnson, a nine-time professional wrestling champ, teamed with Mick Foley in a loss against Evolution's Randy Orton, Batista, and Ric Flair.

Fast forward six years and Johnson is no longer The Rock. He's The Tooth fairy. Life can be funny.

Actually, Johnson is only one of many Tooth Fairies in this family comedy, which also stars Ashley Judd, Julie Andrews, and Billy Crystal. And now it's coming to Blu-ray and DVD. The tooth? YOU CAN'T HANDLE THE TOOTH!

Here's the release:

LOS ANGELES, CA. (March 30, 2010) – In the spirit of "The Game Plan" and "The Pacifier" comes a funny "fish out of water comedy" perfect for the entire family. Hilarious and wholesome, "Tooth Fairy" arrives on Blu-ray Disc/DVD Triple Play and DVD May 4 from Twentieth Century Fox Home Entertainment. Dwayne Johnson ("The Game Plan") stars as Derek Thompson, a hard-charging minor league hockey player whose nickname comes from his ability to knock out other players´ teeth. After discouraging a youngster´s hopes, he is ordered to one week´s hard labor as the real Tooth Fairy, complete with the requisite tutu, wings and magic wand. At first he "can´t handle the tooth," but eventually learns how to adapt to his new position and finds himself rediscovering his own forgotten dreams.

From Emmy award-winning director Michael Lembeck ("Friends"), the whimsical adventure features a stellar supporting cast including Academy Award-winner Julie Andrews ("Enchanted"), Ashley Judd ("Crossing Over," "Helen"), Stephan Merchant ("The Office"), and professional skateboarder Ryan Sheckler.

The "Tooth Fairy" Blu-ray with Digital Copy lets the good times soar to new heights with interactive special features including the Tooth Fairy Training Center – a high-energy kid-friendly boot camp that will get the whole family off the couch and into the fun – featurettes, deleted scenes, a gag reel and much more, and will be available for the suggested retail price of $39.99 U.S. / $49.99 Canada. The single disc DVD will include the "Tooth Fairy Training Center" featurette and Fairy-oke and will be available for the suggested retail price of $29.98 U.S. / $43.48 Canada.
